Shanghai Technical Institute of Electronics and Information (STIEI) is a national full time public higher vocational college with a history of more than 60 years, featuring cultivating talents in such high-tech industries as electronic information, advanced manufacturing industry, producer service sector, as well as city services sector. STIEI boasts honorary titles including National Elite Higher Vocational Colleges, Shanghai Demonstrative Higher Vocational & Technical College, Shanghai Advanced College of Vocational Education, National Vocational Charming Campus 2012, Advanced Group of National Anti-Poverty and the Fourth Huang Yanpei Outstanding Vocational Education School Award in 2014, etc.
Adhering to socialist orientation, implementing the spirit of ideological and political work conference in colleges and universities and guided by serving the development of social economy, STIEI aims to cultivate knowledge-based, creative and high-quality technical talents who boast international views and meet the international professional qualification standards. STIEI endeavors to become a technical application higher college with distinctive features, becoming first- class internal one and having international influence.
The campus of STIEI is located in Fengxian District, including Xuhui and Minhang Campus, with a total area of more than 400 mu (i.e. 308,347 m2), including teaching centers, training bases, information centers, indoor and outdoor playgrounds, living areas, etc. At present, there are about 9, 207 full-time students and 500 teachers. Teachers with medium and higher professional titles cover 90% of the full-time teachers and about 91% of them are dual-qualification teachers. Graduates' employment rate of STIEI has stabilized at more than 97%, 90% of which are employed in the field of electronic information industry, software and information service sector, city services sector and other related industries, and the employers are satisfied with 90% of the graduates.
STIEI consists of 10 departments/schools, including School of Electronic Technology and Engineering, School of Communication and Information Engineering, School of Machinery and Energy Engineering, School of Economics and Management, School of Sino-German Engineering, School of Art Design, School of Foreign Languages, School of Marxism, School of Common Basic Education, and School of Continuing Education. There are 30 specialties, including 4 national key specialties and 6 Shanghai municipal key specialties. A specialty system characteristic of electronic information & manufacturing and finance & art design & media is taking shape.
STIEI attaches great importance to the orientation toward employment and service, the cooperation between college and enterprises, the integration of production and education, the cooperation of school and enterprise, and the integration of work and study, aiming to cultivate students' creative, practical and comprehensive capabilities, deepening the reform of education & teaching and its connotation construction, innovating the talents training model of “taking root in Industry, establishing school-enterprise cooperation, and merging work and study”, paying attention to professional ability and comprehensive quality training, dedicating to cooperation with companies to develop order-training, promoting the integration of academic certificates and professional qualification certificates, and actively exploring the establishment of the academic system for vertical integration and cross-fertilization of production and education, which has become the first batch of pilot units in Shanghai to integrate junior vocational school, senior vocational school and universities. STIEI Develops Sino-foreign cooperation in running schools to create a high-quality international perspective for the comprehensive talents that meets the needs of electronic information, modern manufacturing industry, advanced production, management, construction, and service for the first-line jobs.
STIEI has been enjoying long-standing cooperation with more than 100 domestic and oversea enterprises, such as Shanghai Space Administration, Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Co., Ltd, Shanghai Railway Bureau, INESA (Group) Co., Ltd, Shanghai Haiying Machinery Factory, Shanghai East Lake Machinery Factory, Shanghai Hua Li Microelectronics Co., and Bao steel Group.
STIEI has established central financial supported & municipal financial supported bases, such as national electrician electronics and automation training base, national computer application software technology training base, Shanghai communication and information technology public training base, Shanghai automation equipment maintenance and maintenance of public training base, Shanghai electronic and communication open training center and other national & municipal public training bases and Shanghai National NO.22 Occupational Skill Testing Authority, etc.
In positive response to the Belt and Road initiative of China, STIEI continuously expands the content of international exchanges. On one hand, taking full advantage of Sino-German cooperation, STIEI has realized the interconnection between the system of higher vocational education in China according to German professional standards and that of education from university of applied technology in native Germany, integrating advanced ideas in vocational education into cultivating students. On the other hand, it constantly deepens the cooperation with the UK, Canada, Finland and Singapore etc., in running schools, training teachers, exchanging students, constructing specialties and professional accreditation etc., and keeps enrolling students from Germany, the UK and so on. Besides, it actively explores to build cooperation with Thailand, Morocco and countries along the Belt and Road, in setting up overseas branches, enrolling foreign students and so on.
Serving the national development strategies, STIEI also makes innovations in aid mechanism for counterparts, including enriching aid patterns, increasing items to consolidate accurate aiding, strengthening cooperation with Yunnan, Xinjiang province and so on. Also, by leading the Shanghai Electronic and Information Vocational Education Group, STIEI has made excellent achievements in advancing school-enterprise cooperation, vocational teachers’ training, specialties construction, aiding vocational education of West Yunnan province. Furthermore, STIEI launches the establishment of the Electronic and Information Vocational Education Group in Yangtze River Delta, propelling co-building and sharing of first-rate resources in vocational education, and forging “growth belt for talents in vocational education” in Yangtze River Delta, so as to provide sufficient intelligent support and personnel security for speeding up the economic development and integration progress in Yangtze River Delta.
STIEI furnishes various services supporting Shanghai vocational education through Shanghai Research Society of Higher Vocational Education, the special guidance commission of information which STIEI leads. Also it undertakes technical support for various Shanghai municipal skills competitions and China tryouts for world skills competitions. In recent years, it has provided nearly 30 thousand people from industries and the society with different training each year, including advanced skills and new technology training, staff training and continuing education, etc. Via deepening school-enterprise cooperation and the integration of production and teaching, STIEI positively promotes technical services for enterprises, collaborates with each other in applying for patents, technical transfer and so on, and has helped enterprises create economic profits for nearly tens of millions RMB.
In recent years, STIEI has undertaken about 100 ministerial and municipal technology development and science and research programs. The college has won 9 Shanghai municipal teaching group awards, 2 municipal educational science and research award, 6 municipal Famous Teachers and 22 municipal Excellent Courses. Nearly four years ,students of STIEI have wonmore than 100 national prizes including National Vocational Colleges Skills Contest (High Vocational Group),National College Students Mathematical Modeling Contest, National College Students Electronic Design Contest, and more than 200 provincial and ministerialskills competition awards such as Shanghai vocational collegeskills competition ,etc.
